Tyke Tom’s Clas­sic win

YORK­SHIRE raider Tom Gaus­den topped the fifth an­nual 70-en­try Gar­bolino/Leam­ing­ton AA Strat­ford Clas­sic, on the War­wick­shire Avon, with a bream-based 28 lb 9 oz net.

Gar­bolino-backed Tom, from Leeds, drew peg 12 on the re­cre­ation ground and fished crumb feeder with mag­gots and cast­ers to see off the next-peg chal­lenge of Pete Kil­bridge (Strat­ford AA) with a sim­i­lar 24 lb 10 oz bag.

“It was a great match. Lo­cal tackle shops said we could have eas­ily sold 100 tick­ets. To make it even more spe­cial on its fifth Tom Gaus­den (left) col­lects his Strat­ford Clas­sic tro­phy from or­gan­iser Phil Mat­tock. an­niver­sary, LAA chipped in an ex­tra £120 and paid out £60, in­stead of the usual £50, to the win­ner of each five peg sec­tion,” en­thused match or­gan­iser Phil Mat­tock.
