MICHEL SCHOENMAKERS has continued his record-breaking year by catching the biggest carp ever.

Fishing Hungary’s Euro-Aqua, the 35-year-old became the first angler to catch a 50 kg-plus carp – this 51.2 kg (112 lb

14 oz) giant mirror.

His historic world record came four months after he took a world record brace of carp, scaling 43.1 kg (95 lb 1 oz) and 42.5 kg (93 lb 6 oz), also from Euro-Aqua.

Dutchman Michel told Angler’s Mail: “This day began like any normal fishing day.

“I ate early in the morning and after that I got my rods ready.

“I used a snowman bait

at the meeting, held at London’s Natural History Museum.

Lawrence King’s golden orfe of 8 lb 5 oz from Surrey’s Newdigate Farms was accepted as an equal record. British sea fish records were accepted, too: Jason Touzel’s shore-caught white sea bream of 3 lb 3 oz 2 dr from Jersey; Cameron Atkinson’s shore 18 lb spurdog from North Devon; Ryan Wingfield’s shore 75 lb tope from Pembrokeshire; David Lynes’s presentation and my own boilie brand (Aqua Diamonds), casting to exactly where I wanted them.

“By 9am I had all my rigs in the lake, and it didn’t take long before I got a take. The carp put up a strong fight and felt big.

“After around 20 minutes I had the fish in my landing net. When I tried to lift it up on my sling, I realised how heavy it was.

“It was an incredible carp in perfect condition. I can’t believe that I’m the first person to catch a carp of over 50 kg. I will never forget this day,” smiled Michel, from Nijmegen, in Holland, who had a previous personal best of 100 lb 3 oz, caught just a month ago, also from Euro-Aqua.

Manchester-based Warren baillon’s wrasse of 285 gr off Poole; and John Varcoe’s boat-caught

2 lb 1 oz 14 dr almaco jack from the Cornish coast. 112 lb 14 oz

Michel Schoenmakers Harrison, who has a 101 lb

8 oz PB from Euro-Aqua, and previously held the world record carp brace, says the water is incredibly special.

He said: “I think there’s around four over 100 lb. The

101 lb 8 oz carp that I caught 18 months ago could now be bigger than 112 lb.” Accepted – 8 lb 5 oz orfe

Rejected – Captain Jack
