With a lack of frost and rain this year, there’s still an abundance of weed, and the fish are widespread, too.
Arriving at dawn, I covered a few swims, eventually feeling a pike hit my lure in a very shallow swim alongside a weedbed. Next cast, I managed to hook a modest pike.
Unfortunately, no more action came during the three-hour morning session, which wasn’t helped by the number of anglers on the stretch, some fishing in known pike areas.
It won’t be long before the banks are deserted, though, allowing each and every swim on the stretch to be investigated thoroughly, many of which have the potential to produce a monster pike.
