Rubbish tucked under the bridge
IN THIS column, I mention wriggling under a bridge to get to a difficult swim (pictured below). What I didn’t write about, nor did I get a photo of, was the garbage I found underneath that bridge.
I wasn’t the only angler to pass that way, but it seemed I was the only one not to discard my bait cans after use there. I counted 11 corn cans and 14 meat cans, all thrown away, left to rot, a slur on the reputation of our sport.
We’ve all been rabbiting on for decades about anglers who leave litter. I can remember Taylor and Walker talking about the problem in the ’60s, but it’s still here today.
Like a lot of things in fishing, I sometimes think we need more action and less yak!
