LIAM WILLIS is having a great time on the River Trent in Nottinghamshire’s, topping a 48-hour trip to Gunthorpe with this 16 lb 5 oz barbel.
“The first 24 hours were a disaster, losing a large chub and a barbel in snags, then losing what I think was a very large catfish,” said 48-year-old Liam.
“The next morning I hooked a fish that fought for nearly 20 minutes in the strong flow. I knew when I saw it near the net that it was a new PB, beating my old one of 14 lb 10 oz, caught last year, and it went 16 lb 5 oz.
“Later that day, I also had other barbel of 6 lb 6 oz, 11 lb 10 oz and 14 lb 4 oz.
“Since July, I have had 11 barbel fishing trips, catching 46 barbel, of which 21 were doubles.
“And I had three doubles on the middle Severn in just over two hours, with a Severn best of 11 lb 10 oz,” concluded the Southport, Merseyside-based railway manager.
