FRESH stocks have bol­stered sev­eral al­ready pro­lific lakes con­trolled by Big­gleswade & Hitchin AA on the Cambs/Beds bor­der.

Cru­cians take top billing at Grace Lake, at Sandy, with 1,200 of the chubby golden beau­ties and 100 tench re­cently in­tro­duced by the En­vi­ron­ment Agency.

Carp from the renowned VS Fish­eries have gone into two of the club’s premier wa­ters – 32 fish to 13 lb join­ing leg­endary res­i­dents, in­clud­ing 40 lb­plussers Moon­scale, Clone,

Big Lin and The Brown Fish at Gin­ger­bread Lake, and eight young dou­bles join­ing Swan Lake’s ex­ist­ing stock, which is topped by 15 dif­fer­ent 30s.

McGre­gor Lake, well stocked in past years and now ot­ter­fenced, has been pro­duc­ing good num­bers of dou­bles and 20 lb-plus carp, backed by qual­ity bream, tench, roach,

pinkies and hemp can also work well. Light lure kit scor­ing for the preda­tors. Chopped worm and cast­ers for the tench and bream.

What’s be­ing caught? Lots of roach with oc­ca­sional dace and some qual­ity perch show­ing in the steep-banked town cen­tre stretches near to Mor­risons. Oc­ca­sional chub, larger roach and bream fur­ther up­stream on Stam­ford Mead­ows.

Tac­tics? Pole, wag­gler or light stick float with pinkies, bread punch or mag­gots for the roach. Try twitch­ing lob­worms on a light bomb rig for the perch. Bread flake or cheesep­a­ste for the chub. rudd, hy­brids and pike.

The club also con­trols stretches of the Great Ouse and River Ivel. I’m de­lighted to high­light their op­por­tu­ni­ties again, af­ter they have been un­der the radar for a long time.

What’s be­ing caught? Skim­mers to 2 lb, roach, oc­ca­sional carp and good num­bers of perch of 1-2 lb from Reed Pool and Wil­liam and Florence Lakes. Jack Da­mant won a re­cent Open with 33 lb 10 oz of skim­mers from peg 12 on Wil­liam, pip­ping Dave Rat­cliffe with 30 lb 10 oz of perch and a bonus carp from Florence peg 5. Vet­eran John Odey topped a match on Lake Arthur with 51 lb of carp to dou­bles. Spring Lake of­fers larger carp to 20 lb-plus.

Big Lake pro­duced mir­ror carp of 30 lb 4 oz and 22 lb for Tim Smith dur­ing a two-day ses­sion. Jack­son Crowe mat­ted a

23 lb com­mon. Tra­di­tional Lake and Match Lake 1 also of­fer big carp, Jack Ro­den bank­ing a 20 lb-plus com­mon on a re­cent visit. Skim­mers feed­ing well on Match 1, Alan Tuck win­ning a re­cent match with 25 lb 4 oz at peg 29.

Boilies on the deck or pop-ups pre­sented up to 3 ft off bot­tom worth try­ing for the carp on Big and Trad Lakes. Method feeder with dead red mag­gots, pel­lets or corn best on Match 1.
