The two easy lakes on this five-lake com­plex are pro­duc­ing plenty of small carp, tench and bream.

Tac­tics? Sim­ple float or feeder tac­tics with mag­got in these two lakes will pro­duce plenty of bites.

020 8532 1010. More de­tails on City of London web­site. What’s be­ing caught? One of the big­gest lakes in Ep­ping For­est, at ten acres, with plenty of bream, perch, roach, rudd, tench and carp.

Tac­tics? Bream are the dom­i­nant species, so ground­bait, Method or flatbed feeder is best, at dis­tance with mag­gots, corn or small bright boilies.

What’s be­ing caught? Main Lake has lots of carp av­er­ag­ing 7 lb but up to 20 lb, with bream, chub, roach, perch, tench and bar­bel, the match record is

219 lb. Spec­i­men Lake for some stun­ning com­mon carp to

30 lb, mir­rors to 25 lb and cat­fish to al­most 50 lb.

Tac­tics? No nuts or boilies, so it’s pel­let and par­ti­cles here, and don’t ig­nore the mar­gins, as a light float ap­proach and prawns or a piece of meat could bring big re­wards. What’s be­ing caught? Four lakes, all slightly dif­fer­ent, of­fer­ing a range of species. Match weights over 50 lb needed in win­ter to win on Wood and Pans Lakes, and there are carp to over 20 lb in the Spec­i­men Lake.

Tac­tics? Most baits and meth­ods work here, but fish to the is­lands for the carp, and use qual­ity boilies on the Spec­i­men Lake for the big­ger carp.

Yate­ley Pads Lake

Where? Yate­ley Road, Yate­ley, Hamp­shire, GU47 8JQ (nearby). Win­ter 24-hour group book­ing for up to ten an­glers just £80, from Yate­ley An­gling Cen­tre. Tel: 01252 878994. What’s be­ing caught? Home of over 100 carp, with 30 30s, ten over 35 lb, in­clud­ing two 40s, one of which re­cently came out to Gavin Tay­lor at 42 lb.

Tac­tics? Qual­ity hair-rigged boilies such as Cell, Manilla and Citruz all work­ing, but be stealthy, set your traps and be pre­pared to be pa­tient.
