DE­SIGNED with modern an­glers in mind, there are a to­tal of seven pop­u­lar lakes at Elphicks – North, Plan­ta­tion, Prairie, Sand­wich, Ket­tles, Pul­lens and West

End. Dom­i­nated by carp, the fish­ery’s spec­i­mens run to 50 lb.

The fa­cil­i­ties are top-notch, with The Lodge shop of­fer­ing tackle and food. There are toi­lets and a shower, along with a good ac­cess road all along the site. Sev­eral of the lakes are dis­abled-friendly, too.

The fish­ery does not al­low too much an­gling pres­sure on the fish, so it’s best to book in ad­vance to se­cure some of the best carp fish­ing for 50-pounders on a day ticket.

The top win­ter tac­tic on the spec­i­men lakes is a 10 mm or 12 mm boilie with small PVA bags con­tain­ing mag­gots and hemp.

On Ket­tles, match-style feeder tac­tics score in win­ter, us­ing corn or pel­lets on the hook.

TICK­ETS: Spec­i­men lakes North, Pul­lens, West End (over-17s only), Plan­ta­tion and Prairie (adults and ac­com­pa­nied ju­niors) are

£25 per day for three rods; £35 for 24 hours; £52.50 for 36 hours; £70 for 48 hours; £17.50 per 12-hour ticket af­ter 48 hours of fish­ing. Book­ing ad­vis­able. You must have 42 in. land­ing nets and mats to fish North and Plan­ta­tion. On Sand­wich and Ket­tles, it is £10 for one rod; £15 two rods; con­ces­sions £7.50 and £9.50; £25 and £15 for 24 hours. At this time of year, small boilies are the best hook baits to tempt spec­i­men fish. the on-site shop in The Lodge is well stocked.
