DESIGNED with modern anglers in mind, there are a total of seven popular lakes at Elphicks – North, Plantation, Prairie, Sandwich, Kettles, Pullens and West
End. Dominated by carp, the fishery’s specimens run to 50 lb.
The facilities are top-notch, with The Lodge shop offering tackle and food. There are toilets and a shower, along with a good access road all along the site. Several of the lakes are disabled-friendly, too.
The fishery does not allow too much angling pressure on the fish, so it’s best to book in advance to secure some of the best carp fishing for 50-pounders on a day ticket.
The top winter tactic on the specimen lakes is a 10 mm or 12 mm boilie with small PVA bags containing maggots and hemp.
On Kettles, match-style feeder tactics score in winter, using corn or pellets on the hook.
