Gunki makes life easy for keen lure anglers

FROM SOFT PLASTICS TO JIGS AND LUGGAGE, IT’S ALL UNDER ONE BRAND

- MARK SAWYER Tackle editor

GUNKI is a huge European predator brand owned by Pezon & Michel and distributed in the UK by Sensas. The complete range takes in a wealth of cutting-edge rods, reels, toothy critter accessories and luggage items, not to mention an awesome choice of soft lures.

All these are available online at larger tackle retailers, including Fosters of Birmingham. Here’s a selection:

GUNKI KIDDY

The Kiddy is a close prey imitation mimicking a small fish, with oversized eyes and rounded pectoral fins.

A long split tail gives off tight vibrations that work particularly well on perch and zander.

Its bright flanks are easily spotted by predators, and the large head and slit along the back make rigging it Texasstyle a doddle.

Aniseed-flavoured, it comes in 5cm and 7.6cm options, and you get 12 to a pack.

Price: £3.49

GUNKI WHIZ

The body shape of the Gunki Whiz, like that of the Kiddy, is designed to attract predators feeding on fry.

Its paddle tail lends itself particularly well to use with a small jig head fished sink and draw – a retrieve that small perch seem to find irresistible.

The aniseed flavoured lure comes in 5cm and 7.6cm sizes and six colour options.

This is another great all-round lure for finesse tactics on pressured venues where bites are delicate and fish are fixated on small fry. Twelve to a pack.

Price £3.49

GUNKI GRUBBY FROG

The broad, round head profile of this lure gives a strong gliding effect through the water and takes a weighted jig head securely.

Unbeatable for fishing around structures and submerged vegetation, the 7cm lure is also an excellent trailer for your jigs, as its thick body and double tail generate strong vibrations which predators find hard to resist.

The Grubby Frog comes in three colours with an aniseed flavouring.

Price: £4.49

GUNKI TIPSY V

These tiny lures with a split V-tail are less than 4cm along, with a nervous wriggling action that suits ultra-light drop shot and jig fishing, especially near snags and weed. The wide body give the bait extra stability.

It is not totally solid – instead, rings of material encircle a central spine which give the bait great freedom of movement even on a straight-back retrieve.

In five colours with a choice of split or paddle tails, it is flavoured with a shellfish attractant. In packs of 12.

Price: £3.99
