FIVE BROADS HOTSPOTS

-

RIVER THURNE, POTTER HEIGHAM

The area close to the Herbert Woods boatyard is a real free fishing hotspot, with 30lb nets of skimmers, roach and bonus perch possible. Both the pole and groundbait feeder with maggot will score heavily. Start a pole session by throwing in several balls of groundbait and top up when bites tail off. RIVER BURE, WROXHAM

Situated well away from the coast and salt influxes, the spots around the town centre come into their own at this time of year, with the long pole or a small cage feeder providing lots of bites. When the weather warms up, an early start is recommended to avoid the heavy boat traffic. Contact: Wroxham Angling Centre, 01603 782453

RIVER THURNE, MARTHAM

Head for the boatyard at the end of Cess Lane where the feeder will catch skimmers and bream with plenty of roach on the whip or short pole. Fishing under moored boats with worms will also catch some big perch. Contact: Latham’s of Potter Heigham, 01692 670080

OULTON BROAD, LOWESTOFT

Bank and boat anglers are both catered for, with a mobile approach often faring best for the pike, with lots of double-figure specimens present. Roach anglers will get lots of bites from the free-to-fish Nicholas Everitt Park. Contact: Oulton Broad Fishing Tackle, 01502 539593.

BARTON BROAD, BARTON TURF

Next to the boatyard in the village is a triangular island called the ‘Heater’ and fishing from the moorings here can be excellent for roach, skimmers, perch, hybrids and a few proper bream. Light-line pole and waggler tactics will work well but a spot of prebaiting can get the bream on the feed. In the summer, hemp and tares can work well and tend to attract the bigger roach.
