Who did you draw in this year’s Supercup?

First round fixtures released for hotly-awaited event

-

THE Angling Times/ Bait-Tech Clubman Supercup 2017 first round draw was completed this week, meaning the long wait is finally over for the nation’s club anglers!

As the Supercup enters its 17th year, the competition remains hugely popular and, although reigning champs Cwmbran Angling Nobblers have not entered, a host of teams who have lifted the trophy down the years are in the running again. That list includes Ridgemere AC and Alvechurch Fisheries, while the inaugural champions Alliance & Leicester Liverpool (then called Girobank CAC) and 2003 champions Ringwood DAA are also in the draw.

“It barely seems 12 months since we were drawing round one for the 2016 event, and I’m delighted to see so many teams back for this year’s match. Tackle shops tell me all about the buzz that this event creates among their customers, and it’s great to get local club anglers fishing against each other on their own big match stage,” said Supercup organiser Richard Grange.

“Thanks must go to Bait-Tech for their continued support of the event - Supercup is like the club angler’s version of the FA Cup and another name must go on the trophy at the big final in September!”

HOW DOES IT ALL WORK?

All ties will involve teams fishing against other clubs relatively local to them, although in some cases owing to small numbers of teams in a large geographical area, some travelling may be involved. The home team will have the choice of venue for the first round match but everything else must be agreed by all parties concerned. Please consult the rules on these pages for clarification on any issues that you may have.

WHEN DOES THE FIRST ROUND HAVE TO BE FISHED?

The dates for all the first round ties to be fished is the weekend of Saturday May 6 and Sunday May 7. Each home-drawn side will soon receive a Clubman report card in the post for them to send in the result to Angling Times for publication, along with contact details for the team or teams that they are drawn against.

Please contact your opponents

as soon as possible to allow the maximum amount of practice time. An extension to the fishing dates can only be granted in the case of severe weather cancelling the original tie; no other reason will be accepted.

WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

If you’re a home-drawn team then you will shortly receive a letter in the post from Angling Times providing contact details of your opponent or opponents. You will then be expected to contact each team and start arranging the details of your match as soon as possible. If you are an away team, sit tight and await that phone call!
