MY SUPERB DAY ON THE TERRIFIC TEST

-

I’M just back from Hampshire’s River Test, where on a previous visit to the Broadlands stretch I came close to the ‘Walker Brace’, being half-an-ounce off a 2lb roach and 3oz light of a 1lb dace.

This time I didn’t come close to either but I had several out-of-season brownies, that were taken by the river keeper to their winter quarters where they are kept until the next restocking, and more than 50 grayling. There were also several dace to 10oz and a chub that would have just failed to make 4lb. Simply magnificent.

Achievement of the day went to my great mate Nigel Botherway who had a grayling snatched by a pike and managed to land both – although the grayling had been munched to death, sadly.

I enjoyed the day so much I’m already working on another invitation...
