If you’re pleasure fishing and not catching after a couple of hours… move! Don’t be afraid to feed heavily if there are a lot of chub in front of you. A shoal of good-sized fish will eat a lot of food! Use strong gear to beat situations where fish are causing you problems by running you into weed or rushes. Two or three maggots on the hook work better than one where there is a mix of fish sizes. Use a buoyant-topped waggler in a good flow and an insert when the river is slow. Take a lure rod to places where you know pike are plentiful. It offers added excitement if you manage to hook into a fish like the one that was ambushing my chub!
