SECOND WYE CHAMPS WIN AFTER 10 YEARS

-

River record-holder Edwards strikes again HEREFORD AA RIVER WYE CHAMPS (SUN) River Wye, Hereford (140 pegs)

FEW men have won this prestigious event twice, but Welsh international Lee Edwards can add that accolade to his fishing CV as the Maver rod, who won the champs with a massive river record weight over a decade ago, topped 2017’s event with 71-9-0.

Drawing peg 77 at Bartonsham, Lee fished the waggler with maggot to net chub ranging from a few ounces up to 5lb, finishing the day 10lb ahead of the chasing pack.

That was led by Cotswold Angling’s Mick Bradley, another former Wye Champs winner, who also fished waggler and maggot to take chub and a couple of barbel off the Breinton section to weigh in 61-6-0.

Result: 1 L Edwards, Maver, 71-9-0; 2 M Bradley, Cotswold Angling, 61-6-0; 3 P Bick, Daiwa Dorking, 50-2-0; 4 H Whittle, Sensas Starlets, 48-6-0; 5 B Rigby, Shakespeare Bait-Tech, 38-8-0; 6 A Graham, Oxford, 38-4-0.
