Qualifier news and results

THE quest to become the 2018 Preston Innovations FeederMasters champion kicked off last weekend in cool conditions, with Cambs complex Decoy Lakes hosting the first eliminator.

And a big name is already through to the £12,000 final, after Nick Speed won the match with an 82-11-0 haul of F1s.

Shimano/Dynamite Baitsbacked Nick drew peg 18 on Horseshoe Lake and had a busy day fishing Method feeder with groundbait and micro pellets. He used single maggot on the hook cast tight to the far bank, before moving into the margins in the final hour to net fish to 3lb.

Second was England Feeder team manager Tommy Pickering with 77-2-0 of carp, F1s and skimmers on Method feeder and wafters off peg 15 on Beastie Lake – but as he was in the same zone as Nick he didn’t qualify.

The other two zone winners were local lad Harry Murphy, with 54-6-0 off Yew Lake peg 11 and Lee Munroe, with 65-14-0 off peg 8 on Elm Lake.

Also in the Midlands, winning through to the £70,000 Maver Mega Match This Final at the Glebe and Mallory Park, was Damien Beggs, who bagged 147-12-0 of carp from peg 47 on Pool 3 of Glebe, fishing pellet on the feeder and long pole. David Burley was second with 120-14-0 off Lake 1, peg 6.

Rounding off a triple-header of qualifiers was the eliminator for the Colmic Golden Reel Champs at Colmic/Bag‘em Baits Larford Lakes. Mick Bull won with 97-0-0 of carp on pellet at 14m and Method feeder and bread from peg 9 on Arena Pool, second going to Pete Jones with 75-15-0.
