PATIENCE PAYS FOR COMMON

Baden Hall pb off the surface follows hour of feeding free offerings

-

AS TEMPERATURES soared at a Midlands day-ticket water, Jordan Lattimer knew it was time to reach for the floaters.

Regular baiting and a bit of patience saw his decision rewarded with the capture of this impressive 43lb 4oz common off the top from Quarry Pool at Baden Hall, in Staffordshire.

The 25-year-old said: “After arriving at the venue I soon found a few fish on the surface in the bay, which is separated from the main body of the lake.

“With temperatures exceeding 26ºC the Krill floaters were soon out of the back of the van and I started firing in two to three catapults of them over the top of the fish.

“It took them a while to start taking the odd free offering, but within the hour they were really having them, so I carried on with another two or three catapult loads of bait.

“I was gaining their confidence and they were taking the floaters much more often, and with the rod already made up it was just a case of when to cast out.

“A few fish started to drift off the area so this was an excellent opportunity to get the rig out with minimal disturbance.

“Within 10 minutes the line was fizzing off the spool and the rest is history. A new UK pb, but not only that, a new UK surface pb!”

Jordan, from Birmingham, used a 6ft hooklink and a Sticky Krill

Signature Squid pop-up attached to a size 10 Korda Mixa hook.
