RIVER SEVERN, IRONBRIDGE, SHROPSHIRE

-

This iconic area of the middle Severn below Shrewsbury has attracted several well-known anglers over the years, mainly due to its prolific barbel sport. In the past anglers visited from far and wide to chase the dense stocks of roach, dace, pike, chub and eels. Since their introduction in the 1960s the barbel have thrived. The area still fishes very well today, and already this season we’ve had reports of doublefigure fish. To join in on the fun with stacks of golden torpedoes you can’t beat a feeder approach with groundbait and pellet, which will lead to your quivertip arching round regularly. If you fancy your chances on the float, targeting any shallow glides with traditional hemp and caster tactics will account for barbel on tricky days, alongside plenty of chub and dace.
