Pay a visit to the historic Yateley...

-

NESTLING in an area steeped in carp angling history are the eight Yateley waters owned and controlled by Farnham Angling Society, each with its own special past.

The complex is split into Yateley South and Yateley East. The South Complex consists of Horseshoe Lake, Pumphouse Lake, Tree Lake and the well-known South Lake. Horseshoe Lake is targeted mainly for its stocks of specimen bream and tench, with both species growing to over 8lb. These fish fall throughout the year to anglers fishing over a baited area with a Method feeder.

Next is Pumphouse Lake, an intimate 1.3-acre water and home to numbers of tench and carp. It’s a great bag-up water with good weights of fish being caught throughout the year to anglers fishing the waggler or groundbait feeder.

Across the road you have the South Lake. This iconic mature gravel pit is full of features and, as with most Yateley waters, is a carp angler’s haven.

It holds more than 300 carp, a mix of commons and mirrors to 40lb. Patient and well thought out tactics will catch them, with the margins being deadly spots to those who stay hidden.

The pick of the bunch from the East Complex has to be the Match Lake. At 13.8 acres there is plenty of water to go at holding some proper Yateley characters. Everything in this lake seems to grow big. The carp reach weights of 48lb, the bream are near double figures and there are monster catfish over 60lbs in there too.

Some of carp angling’s biggest names have stalked the banks of the Match Lake before chasing the giants of the Car Park.

If mirror and common carp are not your thing you still have a water with its own slice of angling history to go at.

The beautiful, secluded Summer Pit was formerly home to monster crucians of British record size.

After a slight decline the club has put in lots of work to restore it to its former glory.

The tench reach over 9lb and there are still crucians of 3lbplus present.

This is a perfect water for margin work on pole or waggler.
