A SIX-hour session on the middle Trent saw Jason Elliot slip the net under this 13lb 10oz barbel.

After catching a couple of bream as darkness fell, the 43-year-old carer hooked into his intended quarry on two 12mm Vortex Hydroshrimp & Shellfish boilie hookbaits.

He told Angling Times: “I sat next to my rods, and at 10.55pm I heard three clicks from the reel – I looked up at the tip as it curled over and the freespool mechanism kicked into action.

“As I lifted into it I instantly knew it was a decent fish.”
