Xcelerate rods offer a crisp, powerful casting performance that never tails off – you have to experience it to believe it

-

FOLLOWING in the footsteps of the company’s previous ‘top-end’ rod, the brilliant Aircurve, the Xcelerate certainly had a tough act to follow.

However, just one cast with these magical wands will leave you in little doubt that the bar has been raised still further by Greys. The Xcelerate rods absolutely ooze class, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the blank construction. Regardless of how you dress any rod, this is by far the most important bit, and Greys’ ‘Powerlux’ Nano Carbon is pretty much as good as it gets, and the power in the blank is obvious from the first cast. Most rods feel crisp first time out, but where lesser blanks fall down is that they become ‘floppy’ after a certain period of use as the resins used in combining the wraps of carbon begin to fail. Such is the quality of the Xcelerate, this won’t happen for many, many years of regular use – the build quality is that good.

This top quality extends to the fixtures and fittings, which include carbon Fuji DPS18 hybrid reel seats and G-Lite XR DL Black Edition stainless/ titanium hybrid rings. The rods also come with antifrap tip rings and are fitted with Greys universal line clips and laser-engraved stainless steel butt caps.

The Xcelerate rods are available in either 12ft or 13ft and in a range of test curves between 3lb and 3.5lb. There are various build options, and several handle choices too, including full or abbreviated shrink wrap, cork and full EVA.

They may have a high RRP, but shop around for deal, many of which are available.

Regardless of what you pay, you’ll be getting an awful lot of rod for the money!
