Braid is a vital tackle component in carp fishing these days. Whether you use it for feature-finding on a marker set-up, baiting up on your spod rod or, as is increasingly the case with modern-day carpers, as a mainline on your reels, it needs to be super-strong, abrasion-resistant and smooth casting.

For many years Berkley’s famous Whiplash braid has been the number one choice among carp anglers to fulfil all these tasks, and now the best has got even better because the company has given its famous braid an overhaul for 2018.

The new Whiplash 8, which is made from 100% PE Dyneema, boasts an eight-strand combination for a perfectly round profile.

As well as making it exceptionally smooth, quiet and free-flowing from the reel, its legendary strength has also been given a boost. Proof of this can be found in the fact that the 24lb version is now just 0.06mm in diameter!

As well as leading to slicker, longer casts, the lack of stretch in Whiplash 8 means that you’ll feel every little bump, pebble and strand of weed when markering up a spot, and complete control over your Spomb when it comes to baiting up your chosen swim.

Whiplash 8 is available in a huge number of breaking strains from 24lb (0.06mm) right up to 103.6lb (0.28mm). It is supplied on 300m and 2,000m bulk spools, and in three colour options – moss green, yellow, and crystal.
