RIVER CALDER, DEWSBURY, WEST YORKSHIRE

Angling Times (UK) - - WHERE TO FISH -

BIG nets of dace, grayling, perch and chub have been caught along the Calderbank Road stretch recently by anglers fishing the pole. Fish into the main flow, which is around 8m out, with maggots on the hook, feeding small balls of groundbait regularly.

Use light tackle, such as 0.10mm line and a size 20 hook teamed with a No8 solid elastic, and be prepared to hook the odd large chub or perch.

The stick float can also work well, and feeding maggots and hemp will draw fish from downstream into your peg. If your swim has some far-bank cover it can also be worth fishing a bomb with bread, worms or meat to try and intercept the odd bonus fish.
