AIRE AND CALDER CANAL, POLLINGTON, EAST YORKSHIRE

THIS deep stretch of canal is well known for its excellent roach and bream fishing –but if you prefer to fish lures, Pollington also has something for you. Casting small natural patterns on small 2g jig heads down the margins and twitching them back towards you is a good tactic for getting lots of bites from small ‘wasp’ perch, alongside the chance of fish to 3lb.

If you’re specifically targeting the larger perch then small rattling plugs and larger soft plastic lures can work well.

There are also some pike along this canal, and there’s always a chance of connecting with one of these when fishing with larger lures.
