GOOD THINGS HAPPEN IN THREES!
A MONTH after helping England to secure a bronze medal at the Carp Fishing World Championship in Serbia, Graham Mabey got his own rods out at his syndicate water in the Colne Valley and banked a new personal-best 44lb 1oz common.
Before going to Serbia, Graham – who is assistant manager of Carp Team England – had not long been back in the UK after a successful trip to Abbey Lakes in France, where he managed to bank a new overseas pb with a stunning mirror weighing 62lb 8oz. Graham said: “They say good things happen in threes! I had a fantastic week fishing with good friends in France, and banked one of the lake’s most wanted in the shape of a fish known as Maria – one of the best looking French fish around!
“A few weeks after that I headed out to Serbia for the World Carp Champs, where we walked away with a bronze medal – a good result. It wasn’t the gold that we were hoping for, but we will get that in South Africa in February!
“Then last week I got my own fishing head on and headed to my syndicate lake.
“I didn’t catch during the night, but come first light I recast to some bubblers with a trimmeddown bottom bait tipped with corn and spread a handful of Clearwater Nut boilies over the rod.
“An hour later it rattled off with this amazing 44lb 1oz common. This was my target fish, and the one I dearly wanted from the venue.”
