Young Jack bags huge barbel first time out!
YOUNG Jack Stewart’s first-ever barbel trip got off to a flying start with this 12lb 10oz beauty.
Fishing Chertsey Weir on the River Thames in Surrey, the eight-year-old and his dad fished into the evening with hair-rigged 14mm halibut pellets and PVA bags of 4mm pellets in hope of picking up a big fish.
Their hopes were realised at 9.30pm when the rod hooped over – signalling a powerful run.
Jack’s dad told Angling Times: “He was incredibly made up, and I was so proud of his achievement.”
Jack used a 12ft Drennan Series 7 Specialist Avon Quiver rod coupled with a Shimano Baitrunner reel loaded with 10lb E-S-P Synchro mainline to achieve a personal best.
