THE new National Angling Survey is a vital piece of research that will have an impact on how our sport views itself – and what it does going forward. The previous survey resulted in win-win situations, with benefits such the three-rod licence, free junior licences and removing the nonsense of the April 1 - March 31 licence which, once most anglers weren’t impacted by a close season, made zero sense.

If, as a current or previous licence holder, you are offered the chance to take part online, please take it. There aren’t many times you can have your say in shaping the future of angling – this is one of them.

It’s such a shame that, because of their disaffection with a licence, sea anglers aren’t given the same opportunity.
