FISHERY MANAGER ANDREW TREDGETT SAYS…

-

Tackle: “In my opinion you can’t beat a centrepin reel on this stretch. Not only are these reels a joy to use, but no long casts are required in any swims.

“We allow fishing until 10pm, so the ratchet acts as a bite indicator when it’s too dark to see the rod-tip. In the weir are large rocks that are easy to snag up on, but by using small inline leads there will be nothing hanging from your line to get snagged up on the deck.” Bait: “A large chunk of meat with the hook buried inside it is a reliable option. Fish here love meat, and by burying the hook inside the bait it can’t get caught up on the bottom.

“Boilies and pellets work very well, particularly for the barbel and bream.” Tactics: “The way you fish depends on the part of the stretch you’re targeting. Next to the weir it’s worth having a cast right into the sill itself.

“Farther downstream prebaiting can work very well, and I spend time allowing the fish to gain confidence before casting out.”
