IT’S ALL IN THE FEEDING

-

“THERE are two ways to feed maggots, either by hand or with a small pot. What I’ve found is that feeding out of the hand gives me a better chance of catching ide just as the bait settles after they’ve watched it fall. A pot is more accurate but it doesn’t spread the feed as much. This is better for days when you may be waiting longer for a bite and so are lowering the rig in and giving it a bit of time.

“In terms of amounts, I’d always, always begin feeding frugally with just six maggots each time.

“This may be the way to go for the rest of the day, but if the air temperature rises considerably and I begin to get line bites or signs that more fish are in the swim, I’ll up the feed to a dozen maggots. I’ll soon know if this is actually right and, if not, I’ll go back to six maggots at a time.”
