Midlands Focus on Boddington, River Wye, and great weekend swims to try
This 65-acre reservoir offers quality angling for carp that run to over 20lb and average around 10lb. The fishing can be challenging at this time of year but it is certainly rewarding, with casting a long way often necessary to put you in touch with the fish.
A hybrid feeder is the best way to reach the required distance, and using specialised rods and reels will help you to achieve this.
A long and powerful rod will help you to punch a feeder out, and a reel with a large spool allows your line to peel off the spool with ease.
A low-diameter mainline can also help you achieve extra yards, and something around 5lb breaking strain should be about right. however, it is imperative that you use a shock-leader when using low-diameter mainline to avoid cracking off.
in terms of bait, use micro pellets in the feeder and hair-rigged mini-boilies or wafters on the hook.
More specialised big-carp fishing tactics can also work on this water, and using small PVA bags can result in a busy day’s fishing.
There are also some cracking roach in this venue that are often overlooked – however, with a specialised approach it’s possible to enjoy some fantastic sport. Feed a few balls of groundbait laced with casters and dead maggots and fish the
same baits over the top.
Loose-feeding maggots and caster can help to really get the fish competing, however it’s sometimes better to simply fish over your groundbait. LOCATION: Near Byfield, Northamptonshire, NN11 6XU CONTACT: 07740 534891 or 01582 843454 PRICE: Weekend ticket, £7 one rod, £11 two rods, £4 concessions
