ROCK-HARD? NO WORRIES!

Simon Kenny’s results earn him the crown

- CARP ANGLER OF THE YEAR SIMON KENNY

OVER the past few seasons Simon Kenny has made a habit of turning up at rock-hard venues and proceeding to empty them.

In 2018 he continued in the same vein – with some simply staggering results.

Horton Church Lake is a venue steeped in history that contains an enviable stock of huge, clued-up carp, yet Simon made pretty short work of it during a purple patch in the spring.

His first mega-hit included five thirties, four forties and a 52-pounder in one session! The epic haul of 13 carp in four nights also featured three twenties. Among the highly-prized Horton residents to fall were Fingers at 52lb 14oz, Roger the Dodger (49lb 6oz), Scar (48lb 4oz), Lesters (45lb 2oz) and Guzzler (42lb).

“As I filled the Horton book in before I left it still hadn’t sunk in what had just happened,” said Simon, “Truly a session I will never forget or repeat!”

In fact, the 34-year-old did just that, returning two weeks later to bank 13 fish (five over 40lb) at the famous Berkshire water, followed by another 10-fish hit (three forties) not long after!

After ticking the last of the big Horton fish off his hit list, Simon moved on to the 30-acre Kingsmead 1, and during the autumn carried on where he left off, banking a rake of big fish to over 40lb to cap a season to remember.

The Norfolk angler used the same tactics for most of his fishing this year – Sticky Manilla White Ones pop-ups on reverse combi rigs presented over a spread of Sticky Manilla boilies.
