John Rushworth, 40lb 2oz & 36lb 8oz pike brace, trout fishery

A HUGE pair of pike topping the scales at 40lb 2oz and 36lb 8oz were caught during what John Rushworth described as ‘a day’s fishing he’s waited for all of his life.’

The 50-year-old took the larger of the two giant predators just 30 minutes after casting out a float legered mackerel hookbait at an undisclosed 100-acre stillwater.

He said: “The weather was absolutely horrendous, but we braved it out in the teeth of the wind and it paid off big time!

“I knew the fish was something a little bit special when I hooked into it because it just held its ground with immense power.”

After carefully transporting the pike to the shore to photograph it, John and his boat partner headed back out to the same spot where he finished his session in incredible style by banking the 36lb 8oz second half of his brace.

“I’ll never experience anything like this for as long as I live,” added an elated John.

The bigger half of John’s astonishing 76lb 10oz brace.
