AS RARE AS HEN’S TEETH, THIS 10lb 2oz EEL IS REALLY SPECIAL

Unlike others, it was being intentionally fished for

Tony Arbery, 10lb 2oz eel, southern stillwater

IN EARLY summer Tony Arbery came within 1lb of equalling the longest-standing British record for a coarse species when he banked a massive 10lb 2oz eel from a southern lake.

Tony (55) was fishing a 48-hour session at the venue and used a running rig baited with a bunch of lobworms. The massive Anguilla measured 46.5ins long and had a girth of 11.5ins.

He beat it using an original Jack Hilton carp rod coupled with a Mitchell 350 reel loaded with 12lb mono. His terminal tackle consisted of a 25lb braided hooklink tied to a size 4 E-S-P Cryogen Gripper hook.

Soon after the catch, Tony’s dad Len told Angling Times: “Tony reckons this is by far the best catch of his 50-year angling career.”

?? ?? Tony rates the eel as his best catch in 50 years.
