THE colossal 12lb 3oz tench Darryn Stolworthy caught from Norfolk’s Bawburgh Fisheries was the jewel in the crown of what is possibly the greatest catch of the species ever recorded in the UK.

He caught more than 60 other tench during his session, including a 10lb 1oz male, a dozen ‘nines’ to 9lb 15oz, 10 ‘eights’ to 8lb 15oz, 20 ‘sevens’ and a further 20 smaller fish!

Darryn said: “The tench were surfacing a lot, and by topping up my swims little and often I managed to keep them there.”

He regularly Spombed out a mixture of maggots, casters and chopped worms. Over the top he fished heli rigs incorporating 50g Kamasan Black Cap feeders crammed with maggots, alternating between real maggot, caster or worm hookbaits (the latter being mounted using Quickstops).
