Nor­folk mae­stro Dar­ryn bags 60 top tin­cas

Dar­ryn Stol­wor­thy, mega tench haul, Baw­burgh Lakes

THE colos­sal 12lb 3oz tench Dar­ryn Stol­wor­thy caught from Nor­folk’s Baw­burgh Fish­eries was the jewel in the crown of what is pos­si­bly the great­est catch of the species ever recorded in the UK.

He caught more than 60 other tench dur­ing his ses­sion, in­clud­ing a 10lb 1oz male, a dozen ‘nines’ to 9lb 15oz, 10 ‘eights’ to 8lb 15oz, 20 ‘sevens’ and a fur­ther 20 smaller fish!

Dar­ryn said: “The tench were sur­fac­ing a lot, and by top­ping up my swims lit­tle and of­ten I man­aged to keep them there.”

He reg­u­larly Spombed out a mix­ture of mag­gots, cast­ers and chopped worms. Over the top he fished heli rigs in­cor­po­rat­ing 50g Ka­masan Black Cap feed­ers crammed with mag­gots, al­ter­nat­ing between real mag­got, caster or worm hook­baits (the lat­ter be­ing mounted us­ing Quick­stops).
