SOUTHERN specialist Matt Atkins celebrated the onset of autumn in the best possible fashion when he slipped his net under three huge perch totalling over 14lb in a single session at a venue in the Lea Valley in October.

Matt used feeder-fished lobworm tactics to tempt specimens of 4lb 1oz, 4lb 10oz and 5lb 6oz after discovering the perch’s patrol route on his chosen water.

Targeting an area of thick weed, Matt enticed his quarry using a free-running feeder loaded with chopped worm and dead maggots. “In the morning I caught the two 4lb fish and I was already over the moon,” Matt said. “Later that day I received another take and I knew from the off it was a much bigger fish. The classic headshakes followed and the moment it went over the net cord was one of sheer relief!”

?? ?? This 5lb 6oz perch was the biggest of the three.
