Captor finds new swim on Lea and cashes in

James Champ­kin, nine big perch to 4lb 4oz, River Lea

QUIVERTIPPED lob­worms helped James Champ­kin to com­pile a stun­ning catch of big perch from the River Lea.

The Leighton Buz­zard, Beds, an­gler banked nine 3lb-plus perch to a best of 4lb 4oz over three short trips of no more than a cou­ple of hours each.

James said: “I’ve found perch in a com­pletely new area of the river this win­ter, and the re­sults have been amaz­ing. All have been caught on quivertipped lob­worm while spray­ing mag­gots over the top. The fish­ing has been fran­tic at times, with bites com­ing as soon as the worm hits bot­tom.”

James’ tempted all his fish us­ing light run­ning rigs on 1lb Avon rods with fine 0.5oz quiv­er­tips.

His set-up was com­pleted by a 6lb main­line and 4.4lb flu­o­ro­car­bon hook­lengths con­nected to size 8 hooks.
