A 7lb 14oz fish shows Avon has still got what it takes

THE Hampshire Avon has fallen off the specimen angling map over the past few decades, but Alex Warren proved that the famous river is still capable of producing the goods when he landed a superb 7lb 14oz chub.
Targeting the famous Railway Pool on the Royalty Fishery, Alex used a bait dropper to deposit a mix of hemp and casters before casting out a maggot feeder rig incorporating a size 16 hook loaded with four red grubs.
“I had a thumping bite and felt a heavy fish make for the deeper water. After a few tense moments and a few brutal runs aimed at bankside snags, I scooped up my prize. The Royalty bailiff arrived just in time to witness the scales reading 7lb 14oz!”
