‘Cool’ lure fishing will attract youngsters

-

ANGLING needs to be on the curriculum so that it is taught in every school, because we need more youngsters in the sport.

It needs teaching in a positive manner, so students learn about nature and how anglers protect and look after not only their catch but the countryside, by reporting polution and poaching.

I think to make angling trendy it has to appeal to the younger generation, and lure fishing fulfils this need – it’s very ‘urban’ and accessible to everyone. It’s also very cool and fairly easy to learn, and is fairly cheap.

Making angling more accessible to families would also help, as lots of people currently feel as though they don’t have time to pick up the basics of the hobby.

Showing how you can adapt it to suit your lifestyle will put fishing within reach of far more people. Jamie Mullins, email
