Vinnie Durn, 3lb 8oz roach, southern gravel pit

VINNIE Durn finished his angling year in breathtaking style by compiling one of the best roach hauls ever taken – three 3lb-plus fish to a best of 3lb 8oz!

The Bristol-based specimen angler targeted an undisclosed southern gravel pit, where he fished at 60 yards to the back of a gravel bar using fake sweetcorn hookbaits on helicopter setups to avoid the venue’s huge crayfish population.

“I fished the rigs over a big bed of groundbait, hemp and sweetcorn – and all were caught through the night and the following morning from the tightly fished area!” he said.

Vinnie backed up the big trio with a pair of 2lb 8oz fish in the memorable session.

?? ?? Attaching the hooklink heli-style helps prevent tangles. A single grain of fake corn makes a fine big roach bait. A 1oz cage feeder is perfect for the job. Groundbait and corn make the ideal feeder mix.
