Perch – slowly does it

-

I know a lot of anglers struggle to catch perch on lures once the temperature plummets, but there is a very simple tip that has stood me in good stead this last year – fish very, very slowly. If you are recasting more than once every few minutes then you are retrieving your lure too quickly. Most of the time there isn’t even any need to impart any movement to the bait, especially when using a drop shot. Just hold the rod and wait for a bite. The reason this tactic works so well is that the perch are often sat tight on the bottom and are not willing to move far. Shorten your drop shot to fish the lure just six inches off the bottom and use a lure that is buoyant enough to balance the weight of the hook, and you can fish as slowly as you wish.
