NOT JUST A SPORT – ANGLING CAN BE A SOCIAL SERVICE!
AS A trustee of Get Hooked on Fishing I spend as much free time as I can volunteering at our Northala Fields flagship project.
Despite the name, GHoF is more a charity for children and young people that uses angling as a tool to connect and interact with them. Many who come to us have issues that prevent them accepting the normal routine of school, or even home, life.
It’s incredible to see the changes achieved by talking to them and treating them as equals, and there’s no greater leveller than angling for that.
I’m looking forward to much more of that and, hopefully, some better weekend weather for our Family Fishing Days.
These are when we all put on one of GHoF’s other hats and work to introduce non-anglers to our sport.
Family Fishing Days are eagerly awaited by youngsters.
