MAKING THE most of a mild spell in mid-January was time well spent for Adam Reed when he banked one of the biggest chub of the year weighing in at 7lb 15oz.

Adam began his session by catching half-a-dozen chub to 4lb 14oz using a stick float and maggot approach, before a switch of tactics – and stretches – led to the new personal best nestling in the bottom of his net.

He told Angling Times: “After the morning I moved to a different area that I thought could produce a much bigger fish, and switched to using breadflake on the hook and a micro Drennan stainless feeder full of mashed bread.

“That combination ultimately helped me to get the bite from the big one.”

?? ?? Breadflake fluffs up once in the water. Crumb forms a trail of feed downstream. Open-end cage feeder empties quite quickly. Tail rubber over swivel prevents tangles. A magnificent 7lb 15oz Thames chub for Adam. Hooklink held in place between two float stops.
