IN GOES A GALLON OF HEMP TO LURE 3lb 1oz ROACH FROM CHALK STREAM
“I’m an animal when it comes to feeding!” admits captor
Roman Vann, 3lb 1oz roach, southern chalkstrean
ROMAN Vann ended the 2017/18 river season in fine style by banking a 3lb 1oz roach from a southern chalk stream.
Rather than feed his swim little-and-often, the 26-year-old introduced a gallon of hemp with a bait dropper at the start of his session, before casting a maggot feeder rig over the top. Not long after he was celebrating the capture of his new personal best.
“I’m an animal when it comes to feeding… it’s all or nothing,” said Roman.
“Many anglers can’t get their head around this approach, but I don’t think the roach actually fill themselves up on the hemp.
“It’s just a great attractor and then the maggots are like the cherries on the top of a cake – they just pick them off!”
