MOST RANDOM CATCH OF THE YEAR ANDY MYTTON, LURE-CAUGHT EEL
Commendable as all the weekly monsters are in Angling Times, more remarkable still are those catches that come right out of the blue. Some of these are completely deserved, others are a stroke of pure luck.
So where do we place Andy Mytton’s huge specimen eel, at over 1m long?
Caught in the Lure Fishing International match at Rutland, you could probably argue either case. Perhaps fortunate, because how often do eels take lures?
Then again, just landing the thing on relatively light tackle is a feat in itself. I’m not sure the captor could decide either way.
After taking a small eternity of precious time to net, competition rules meant that it didn’t count! Talk about the best and worst of luck in one wriggly episode...
