Angling’s very own Brexit issue has been as toxic as ever this year. Actually, the Brexit comparison is uncanny. Blood pressures are raised daily, friends become enemies and anyone would think the world was ending.

Playing devil’s advocate though, nice one Tarka for taking the heat off Eastern Europeans, carp anglers and other popular targets. Once you are completely annihilated, angling will miraculously become as good as it was in Izaak Walton’s day. The rivers will be full of 20lb barbel, and Brexit will be a roaring success.

Unfortunately we’ll also have to find another scapegoat to light the fuse for civil war.
