LOBWORM BOMB RIG FOR BIG PERCH
RUNNING RIG
1 Perch hate resistance, and will soon drop a bait if they feel anything pulling back on the other end.
That makes a running rig the only set-up to use, stopping the lead against a bead and swivel combo to which you attach your hooklength.
A hooklength of 12ins-18ins is a good starting point.
CLOUDY FEED
2 Perch will eat anything put in front of them, but they much prefer ‘live’ baits that wriggle. This makes maggots and pieces of chopped worm winners.
Casters make a good feed for putting a bed of bait down, and prawns are favoured by some, both on the hook and as feed.
You can add to the potency of your feed by adding some red-coloured liquid to create a vivid cloud in the water.
LIGHT BOMB
3 A 0.5oz or 0.75oz bomb cuts down on resistance as a fish takes the bait.
Fix to the rig with a snaplink swivel so you can change bomb sizes for different distances.
POP THE WORM UP
4 A worm fished on the bottom is good, but if you can pop the bait up they’ll often take it quickly.
To present a worm off bottom, inject it with air from a syringe to make it more buoyant – do this carefully, and always on a hard surface.
To keep the hooklength on the bottom, place a piece of tungsten putty or a BB shot a few inches from the hook.
