Five times World Champion Alan Scotthorne knows the canal around Thorne well and he topped this latest

round comfortabl­y with a 19-10-0 roach net from peg 168. He alternated between breadpunch at 9m and hemp and caster at 14.5m, leaving Norman Beamson in second with 15-12-0. On the team front, Alan’s Drennan Barnsley Blacks side led the way with 14 points and they now sit pretty at the top of the table on six points from Browning Ossett on nine.

The river was in a bit of a state after all the rain but the match went ahead and Darlington Angling Centre led the way with a 41 point tally, getting the nod on total weight after Pip’s Tackle matched that score. This means there’s a three-day tie at the top of the table between Pip’s, Tri-Cast Woodlands and Cleveland Angling Centre on eight points apiece. Top rod was Darlington’s Pat Adams who put together 11-14-0 of skimmers using feeder and worm or maggot from peg 153. He was followed by Woodlands man Chris Gowling with 7-0-0 off peg 165.

pellet at 14m to land carp to 10lb. That relegated Jamie Hughes into second as he tackled peg 32 on the Trio Pool with pellet at 14.5m to net carp to 6lb for 85-13-0 at the scales.

Aire & Calder Canal, Heck & Whitley (42 pegs) Originally scheduled for a wrecked River Calder, the canal was a good fallback venue and it produced some good fishing with winner Paul Clark finding the skimmers
