How do winter and summer groundbait mixes differ?

-

AGavin Childers, Salford There are two main differences and those are the food content and colour of the groundbait. In winter, the water in venues is clear so a dark or black low-feed mix is best. It gives fish the confidence to feed and it won’t fill them up. This low-feed is down to the groundbait ingredients being crushed finer, leaving no bigger particles.

In summer, the opposite applies. The fish are hungry, so a high feed mix works. You may still need the mix to be dark if the water is clear. I use Sensas Gros Gardons, there is a standard blend for summer and then a fine mix for winter. They’re essentially the same groundbait but one is a lot finer in texture than the other. Sean Ashby
