DRENNAN CUP CATCHES OF THE WEEK
2019 - 2020 SEASON
BEST-EVER BARBEL AFTER EPIC TRIP
DANIEL Woolcott drove three hours from his home in Kent to reach the River Trent and was duly rewarded with a personal best barbel of 17lb 2oz. During his 48-hour stay the specialist also netted five other doubles weighing 10lb, 11lb 2oz, 11lb 8oz, 12lb 2oz and 12lb 8oz – all of which fell to soaked 15mm boilies.
LAMPREY’S THE WAY FOR 16lb 5oz ZANDER
ZANDER ace Martin Jauncey had one bite during his trip to the River Severn, but couldn’t complain when it resulted in this predator weighing 16lb 5oz. Traditionally roach deadbaits are top fodder for zander but Martin legered a bloody lamprey section. “Lamprey bleeds for a long time in the water so I thought it’d give me an edge,” he said.
NEWBIE BANKS RIDICULOUS ROACH!
DESPITE being new to specimen angling, James Hunt has slipped his net under one of the largest stillwater roach of the season at 3lb 4oz. The Leicestershire angler fished maggot feeders on a southern pit. “When this huge roach popped up I started shaking,” he told us.
BAIT SWITCH TEMPTS LEA GIANT
A SIMPLE rig and hookbait change singled out this big chub for Kings Weir regular Mike Staines. The 7lb 13oz fish is one of the three largest chub caught from the Lea hotspot this season. “I managed slabs of 7lb 11oz and 7lb 13oz on maggot feeder,” he said. “I switched to an open-ended feeder with groundbait and a pellet hookbait for chub.”
