What features should I be looking for on canals?

ARushes or a moored boat would be the sort of thing I’d head for. Another good spot is where overhead power cables go over the canal as they act as a magnet to fish for some reason. Obviously, you need to fish a safe distance away from them. In terms of the actual fishing, I’d bank on a line down the middle in the deep water for big fish and then have my small-fish swim in around 3ft of water that’s just at the bottom of the far bank shelf. Wide areas can also be very good for skimmers, so if there are a few pegs that are 16m wide as opposed to 13m, they’re worth a look.
