BITES may be at a premium at this time of year and you certainly don’t want to lose what you hook. It’s false economy to scale down and fish a small hook because it may get you more bites. It also runs the risk of a high percentage of hooked carp being lost. A size 16 is just about right for corn and meat baits, but some finesse is important in clear conditions so try and pick a hook that’s strong but made from a medium to light wire.
